Brainspotting Therapy for Trauma, Anxiety, Grief, and Nervous System Healing

Oakland, CA & Online Across California

You don’t have to keep reliving the pain. Your mind and body can begin to settle and heal.

You’ve worked hard to make sense of the past.
But even with insight, reflection, and talk therapy, something still feels stuck in your body or emotional system.

Brainspotting is a brain-body approach designed to help process trauma, emotional overwhelm, and deeply stored stress responses that may not fully resolve through insight alone.

When talking about it isn’t changing how you feel…

You may notice a disconnect between what you understand intellectually and what your body continues to hold. Trauma, grief, anxiety, and chronic overwhelm can continue affecting your nervous system long after the original experience has passed. Maybe you’re experiencing:

  • Ongoing emotional or physiological impact from a traumatic birth

  • Anxiety, panic, or a persistent sense of dread that doesn’t fully resolve

  • Grief or loss that still feels present in your body or emotions

  • Repeating emotional or relational patterns even when you understand them logically

  • Carrying shame or self-criticism

If you’ve tried talking through it and still feel stuck, Brainspotting could be the next step.

How Brainspotting Works

Brainspotting is a neurobiological approach based on the connection between eye position, brain processing, and emotional experience. By gently focusing your gaze on specific eye positions connected to stored emotional experiences, your nervous system can begin to process material that may not be accessible through language alone.

  • You don’t have to talk through everything.

  • You remain in control throughout the process, at your own pace.

  • You are supported throughout the entire session with attuned clinical guidance.

Sessions begin by identifying a focus area and noticing where it shows up emotionally and physically. From there, we use eye position and mindful tracking to support deeper processing and nervous system regulation. Many clients experience emotional shifts, increased clarity, and a greater sense of internal grounding over time.

Brainspotting therapy may help you:

  • Process unresolved trauma and emotional wounds

  • Reduce anxiety, stress, and emotional overwhelm

  • Increase grounding and nervous system regulation

  • Reduce rumination and intrusive memory loops

  • Reconnect with a clearer sense of yourself and your internal experience

  • Cultivate self-compassion

  • Increase emotional resilience

  • Release stored somatic tension

  • Support integration after loss, grief, or heartbreak

Frequently asked questions about Brainspotting therapy

  • Yes! Brainspotting is just as effective virtually or in person.

  • Brainspotting accesses deep parts of the brain involved in processing emotions and trauma using eye position and focused mindfulness. Unlike talk therapy, it doesn’t require you to verbalize everything, and unlike EMDR, it's less structured and allows more space for your natural healing process to unfold. Many clients find it gentle, intuitive, and powerful.

  • Brainspotting can support healing from trauma, anxiety, grief, performance blocks, chronic stress, birth trauma, and emotional overwhelm. It’s particularly helpful when traditional talk therapy hasn’t provided lasting relief.

  • No — one of the benefits of Brainspotting is that you can process experiences without needing to share the details aloud. This makes it especially powerful for clients who feel stuck or retraumatized by verbal retelling.

  • Sessions are quiet and deeply focused. I’ll guide you to notice what’s happening in your body while focusing on a “brainspot.” You may speak, remain silent, or move between the two. I’ll stay attuned and present throughout.

  • Before your intensive, we’ll complete a 90-minute intake and planning session to clarify your goals and prepare your system. You’ll also receive pre- and post-care recommendations for grounding and integration.

  • No, you can continue seeing your current therapist. Brainspotting can be used as an adjunct to talk therapy
